Cies Islands are part of "National Park Atlantic Islands of Galicia"

This national park comprises four islands located in Rias Baixas

Cies Islands, Archipelago de Ons, Archipelago and Archipelago Salvora Cortegada

The National Park's area is 8,480 of which 7,285 have, 2 are marine and terrestrial 1194.8



CiesIslands Archipelago

This archipelago consists of three islands, Illa Monteagudo or North, or Illa do Faro Do Middle and San Martino or Illa South.

All three are rugged mountainous west face, with almost vertical cliffs over 100 meters and numerous caves (furnas) formed by the erosion of the sea and wind. s Cies

 Sea life

The underwater area surrounding Cíes forms one of the richest ecosystems in the Galician coast. Most notable is an important kelp forest.

The perimeter of the islands have different kinds of environments: cantos rodados

On the beaches of the protected areas there are plenty of bivalve molluscs and turbot, plaice and sole.

22,000 pairs of seagulls are the largest colony in the world and is the dominant species in Cies. He follows the shag, with 1,000 couples, and the dark gull, with 20 pairs
Rabbit, hedgehog, otter are the only wild mammals with some presence today.

Reptiles are represented by different types of lizards, lizards and snakes, amphibians (to a lesser extent by the scarcity of water), as salamanders and frogs, and invertebrates such as snails, beetles, spiders and butterflies just completing the fauna of the islands.

The forest has disappeared as a fig tree native species and others such as Turkey oak have been reduced considerably, almost a quarter of the park area has been reforested with pine and eucalyptus.

In the dunes, beaches and cliffs support species, some endemic to the coastal Galician-Portuguese, physical and climatic conditions extreme. The presence of the armory (Armeria pungens), known in Galicia as herba namoreira, endangered, as well as plenty of camariñas (Corema album), unique in southern Galicia.
In the area of the lagoon is typical of marsh vegetation such as reeds.
